Blood Orange Martini

This is one of the few truly seasonal Halloween drinks.  The blood orange is smaller than other oranges, and its flesh is a beautiful crimson color:

  • Juice of a blood orange (available at most specialty grocers)
  • Generous helping of gin

Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a twist of lemon.

Full Moon

This favorite drink is a blend of:

  • Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum
  • Malibu Coconut Rum
  • Peach schnapps
  • Pineapple juice

Pour the golden confection into a martini glass, add a cherry garnish, and serve it to your favorite werewolf.

Zombie

The Zombie is a combination of 3 kinds of rum:

  • Light rum
  • Dark rum
  • 151-proof rum
  • Pineapple juice
  • Orange juice
  • Sugar
  • Grenadine

Pour into a highball glass and serve with a black licorice straw.

Brain Hemorrhage

This classic bar shot comes into its own at Halloween:

  • Grenadine
  • Peach schnapps
  • Bailey's Irish Crème

If you make it right, the Bailey's floats in a thick layer on top, with a curdling column descending through the Schnapps to the bloody grenadine below.  It looks so cool, it's almost a shame to drink it.  Almost.

Vampire's Kiss

Blends sweet and salt in a refreshing departure from the usual sugar-laden Halloween drinks:

  • Vodka
  • Gin
  • Vermouth
  • Tequila
  • Salt
  • Tomato juice
  • Old Fashioned Mix

It's surprisingly smooth and tastes like a tangy, grownup version of a Screwdriver.  Also in its favor:  a great name and a lurid orangey-red color that suggests a night of naughty neck-nibbling.  Mmmm.

Scooby Snack

Remember watching "Scooby-Doo" after school?  Remember how those meddling kids were always stumbling across haunted houses and bog monsters and other creepy mysteries?  Well, what they never told you is that after a hard day's work solving mysteries, the Scooby gang would go down to the bar and order a round of this drink to unwind:

  • Malibu Coconut Rum
  • Midori
  • Pineapple juice
  • Cream

It goes down easy and it looks and tastes like candy - just right for a grown-up trick-or-treater!

Mummy's Milk

Ever wanted a shot that'll get you buzzed and freshen your breath at the same time?

  • Rumplemintz
  • Bailey's Irish Crème

The Bailey's settles slowly to the bottom of the shot glass, leaving a trail of creepy white stuff hanging in the Rumplemintz.  Put a candy corn or a candy pumpkin in the bottom of the shot glass for a fancy Halloween touch.

Sex with an Alligator

A layered shot that's trouble in a martini glass:

  • First Layer:  Deep red raspberry liqueur
  • Second Layer:  A mix of Midori (an electric-green liqueur that glows like radiation) and sweet-n-sour mix
  • Final Layer:  ½ oz. Jägermeister

The result is a red, green, and deep brown drink that will have everybody staring.

Swamp Thing

Looks like the foam on a puddle of dirty ice melt.  But guess what?  It's delicious and oh-so-easy to make:

  • 2 parts vodka
  • 1 part Bailey's Irish Crème (or some other cream liqueur)
  • Add Coca-Cola

Shake it up, then pour over ice.  The liqueur curdles in the vodka, the Coke turns it a funky brown, and it comes out tasting like an ice cream float.  Specially designed to make people say "Ewww!"
